It started with a dream...
Dreams Can Be Powerful
They can be a source of inspiration that spurs us into action.
Air Magic started with a dream about creation. A goddess, a magician, a creator with moonlight in her hair beckoned me forward from the shadow lands of slumber. I woke with a vision in my heart that would not be quiet until it was drawn out onto paper.
The Goddesses and Gods collection was born.
Once the dream had begun to fade I realized it's origins had been made in the remembrance of an old friend. She was fun, very lovely, creative, and wheel-chair bound. When I saw her, I saw her. Her strength, her passion for art, and her graceful movements. The chair never really registered to me. Yet, I noticed others noticing the wheel-chair. She met the stares by raising her chin defiantly. Always determined, she carried on with grace, no matter what.
I wished that others could see her, as I did. All the people in the world dealing with poor health, disabilities, and emotional pain; who work day in, night round, to simply be people, deserve to be seen as people. People who are doing things they love to do, despite overwhelming odds. People who must take on daily challenges they never asked for, or wanted. People who are left with the stares of onlookers too fortunate in health to understand, or feel compassion.
Once the initial sketch was done, it became clear what this painting was about.
The Goddesses and Gods of Creation collection is about creation, bringing spontaneity to life while exploring the concept of magic. Air Magic is about how I saw my friend. I saw her as a powerful woman, full of the magic of creation, living her dream as she helped others bring their cherished dreams to life.
In the next blog post we will start looking at the behind the scenes sketches that brought the Air Magic painting to life.
