How to Stay Inspired

Unlocking inspiration and freeing creativity to be a part of your daily life.

It's akin to keeping the window open to let in a continual breathe of fresh air into a once stifling room.

If curiosity is the skeleton key to unlocking inspiration, how do we use it to get and stay inspired?

In the previous post we discovered that curiosity can be a powerful way to open our minds and bring in inspiration into our lives.

How exactly does curiosity lead to inspiration?

When we allow ourselves to be curious, to wonder and ask questions including: who, what, when, where, and most importantly, why and how... we effortlessly place ourselves in an open frame of mind where we can leave behind old, worn, tired notions and invite creativity to grow into fun, original, and unique solutions to most any problem.

Curiosity leads to questions. When we question, we can often find treasure troves of inspiration in the search for answers. A great place to feed your sense of curiosity is science – good science is the unbiased quest for answers. Curiosity Fuels Inspiration © Kristen Girard

Let's explore this a little further – with one of my favorite topics as an example: dinosaurs. A little bit of curiosity can lead to big things. Sometimes literally! :)

Dinosaurs are a wonderful, tantalizing detective mystery.

In the course of their lives dinosaurs left tantalizing clues that can be uncovered, with a little clever detective work, over a time span that flexes the imagination's capacity due to it's sheer length. Dinosaurs were fantastic beings of many shapes and sizes, with incredible adaptations to do pretty much anything, that once actually roamed the Earth. The Earth we live on, now!?!?! They are akin the dragons of fantasy, but real. And dinosaurs are still with us, but we call them birds....

Jaw dropping. Awe inspiring.

Chickens, bald eagles, sparrows, ostriches and swans... all one special branch of the dinosaur family tree! :)

I know, you might be thinking... chicken...a dinosaur? Really? Shouldn't dinosaurs be scarier or bigger? Dinosaurs evolved into many shapes and sizes. Some huge, some teeny, tiny. And as for scary... try hanging out with an angry, territorial rooster seeking to protect his hens sometime. Now that is one scary chicken – I mean, dinosaur. ;)

*Pause*

( Went all dreamy eyed, just thinking about how dinosaurs evolved through time. )

*Back to our train of thought!*

----

Let's start finding inspiration for a painting of dinosaurs by engaging our curiosity and beginning to ask questions such as:

  • Which dinosaur am I the most curious about?

  • What do we currently know about this dinosaur?

  • What did it eat?

  • Is there evidence that this species of dinosaur may have been social? Traveled in herds? Hunted in packs?

  • What physical characteristics do we know the dinosaur had?

  • What animals alive today might have similar characteristics?

  • What is most interesting thing, right now, to us about this dinosaur?

Now that our curiosity is active, and as our minds become truly engaged in finding answers, along the way inspiration will simply, easily, and naturally find us. Isn't that great?

When we activate our curiosity, we no longer have to search for inspiration, it finds us.

You can apply curiosity to any facet of your life - work, play – even chores – and by doing so cultivate an artful way of living where joyful inspiration is your constant companion.
