Sometimes Inspiration is Far and Away – Beyond the Distant Horizon
During creative dry spells, the answer is often to find a way to unlock inspiration.
That begs the question – how?
How do we unlock inspiration and the creativity that follows?
We can search high and low for wisdom that guides us to unlocking the mysterious force of inspiration. Yet, the skeleton key that unlocks all the doors to inspiration will often be found in the basic questions all children ask:
Perhaps the most powerful question is every child's favorite:
The key to freeing inspiration is curiosity.
When we allow our minds to run free with curiosity, we free ourselves to look at the world with childlike wonder. Childlike wonder is fresh, unrestrained, unbound, and willing to try new things just for the sheer joy of discovery.
In the day to day world it is so easy to travel down the gray spiral of ordered "adult" thought that leaves no room for questioning the status quo, exploring alternative solutions, and getting down to the basics of how something came to be standard practice. When we fail to question, when we fail to be curious, inspiration will always be at a distance too far to reach. The lack of inspiration leads to the substitution of flashy lights and sophistication in exchange for genuine innovation and substance.
How can we use curiosity to find inspiration to make a great book cover, to design a great ad campaign, to create illustrations that make people stop and look, to interior decorate a welcoming room, or even just to make drool worthy cupcakes that will make your mother-in-law smile?
Curiosity is a powerful fuel to light the fires of inspiration.
Stay tuned as we explore why curiosity and inspiration are best buds.
